911
The term 911  has two meanings in Big Canoe. Residents need to understand both!

Dial 911 Print E-mail

Call 911 to report any emergency in Big Canoe and  be sure include your 911 address and lot number when you do.

Do not call the gates! Calling Public Safety Personnel at the gates during any kind of emergency impedes emergency response because emergency vehicles are likely to be coming in the gates during an incident. Security personnel are also coordinating radio communications with various emergency agencies at such times.

911 Address Print E-mail

One of the more unusual things for new residents to become familiar with after moving to Big Canoe is the idea of three addresses:

Physical Street Address or Lot Number

P.O. Box Address

911 Address

The first two are common enough, but what about the 911 address? As the name implies by the use of '911' it is an emergency address. What it means is how far your home is located from a main road intersection. For example:

  • 215 means you are located 0.215 miles from the main road intersection.
  • 1157 means you are located 1.157 miles from the main road intersection.
  • Also, coming from the intersection odd numbers are on the left side of the street and even numbers are on the right.

It is recommended that your 911 address along with your lot number next to your telephone because Emergency Vehicles use the 911 address to more quickly locate your home in an emergency.
