Just The Beginning Print E-mail

The following basic home emergency preparation items have been covered:

  • Calling 911,
  • Knowing your 911 address
  • Signing up for your county's emergency notification system
  • Creating a home escape plan
  • Knowing how to turn off your utilities

This is just the beginning of what is needed for true home emergency preparedness. These items are just the basic minimums of preparation required to protect your family.

All of these items and much more need to be incorporated into a family emergency or disaster plan. Such a plan will reasonably prepare you and your family to deal with any emergency or disaster situation from a medical situation to a natural disaster, and even a pandemic. To understand and learn how to develop such a plan go to the next section, "Creating A Family Emergency Plan."
